Beginning on September 1st of this year, the annual fee for each student will rise from £2,200 to £2,550.
The rise is intended to alleviate the financial strains on the non-statutory pre-school sector, which include those brought on by rising utility prices, higher employers' National Insurance contributions, and hikes in the national minimum and living wage rates.
The increase in the funding rate will help the 6,400 youngsters who currently attend non-statutory pre-school settings. Mr. Givan made the announcement while visiting Lisburn's Jolly Pirates Pre-School.
"I acknowledge the important role early childhood education providers play in making sure every child has the best start in life," he stated.
"I understand that the non-statutory pre-school education sector is under unique strains due to the current financial situation, and I have tried to address these within the constraints of the available budget.
"Today's announcement demonstrates my continued commitment to support the pre-school and early years education sectors during a very difficult period for public spending in general."
Prior to the ongoing implementation of the Department's Pre-School Education Standardisation program, the extra financing is intended to stabilise the industry.
As part of the creation of an Executive Early Learning and Childcare Strategy, the standardisation program seeks to provide full-time (22.5 hours per week) education to all children aged three to four.
