On an otherwise sunny and warm morning, swimmers of all ages braved the frigid waters in Howth and Dublin in swimming spots like Sandycove's Forty Foot.
Another well-liked event was the annual swim in Bantry, County Cork, which drew hundreds of people, and the 39th annual swim in Ballybunion, County Kerry.

The homeless organisation COPE hosted the 35th annual Christmas Day swim in Salthill, County Galway, which drew sizable crowds.
In an effort to surpass the €45,000 that was raised for the charity last Christmas, hundreds of people braved the cold.
